New Afterglow [28 Aug 2026]

Run classic After Dark screen savers on modern macOS. Pro Tip: When I first installed this I couldn’t figure out how to use it. After you install some screen saver packages, you have to add it to System Settings by going to Afterglow > Settings and installing the screen saver from there.

New Stacks [28 Aug 2026]

Run classic HyperCard stacks on modern macOS

New Altar II [12 Aug 2026]

Looks like an amazing piece of engineering, if it exists.

Bubbles [24 Jul 2026]

Took a minute to figure out what’s going on here. You have to read the about page. Great idea for a site and has made my daily reading list.

A pretty old article which is now more important than ever, being as every major search engine has decided to ruin their product over the past vew years

8bit Computers [21 Dec 2025]

What a fun little history this is

Pizza Kidd [8 Dec 2025]

I am not affiliated with this project in any way, and have no idea whether you should support it, but the artwork as previewed so far looks exquisite

This is only 4 years old and it already feels like something from ancient internet times.

vgen [21 Nov 2024]

Extremely cool idea and I really hope it takes off. At the height of the bat flu I tried to build something similar, but never could make it work. The execution of vgen is way better than what I was up to, and it’s done with much better taste.

~duncjo01/archive [15 Nov 2024]

Fun little rabbit hole to get lost in, especially if you’re a tiling background enthusiast. I love the ones from Mac System 7

Dockside for Mac [27 Oct 2024]

At first I thought this was gonna be yet another UI for docker, but it’s not! It is a utility that puts a little “shelf” next to the Dock for easier access when you’re working on something that requires flipping between a bunch of apps. iirc this was also a feature of DragThing, which did so much stuff that app developers will be recreating its’ functionality for years to come.

Halloy IRC [9 Sep 2024]

Linux and macOS IRC client - VERY welcome on macOS, where most of the other big clients are old and dated looking. The most recent Halloy release fixes a bug I had where file transfers wouldn’t work, but it appears that is fixed. Give it a shot.

TIL Renderosity is still around. It’s a real shame that Bryce3d doesn’t run on modern systems. The things you can make with it, have a style all their own.

If you like the classic vidya section of this site, you will love Take on the NES Library. Seems to be fairly well-established, but I had never heard of it before now.

Reviving a Dinosaur [13 Jul 2024]

There are a few projects like this floating around, but I really have a soft spot for those old Silicon Graphics workstations

The classic series of solo RPGs, as interactive, miniature web apps. I did not even make it through the first book before being killed.

I am currently in the market for a new overnight bag and goodness this is whole product class is daunting. I don’t really care what I have to spend, I just want to get the right thing the first time and never think about a backpack ever again.

cross-posting a thread I made on Mastodon earlier. I think there’s some neat stuff in here.

Maybe I should do some of this stuff?

dimden's hotel [21 Jun 2024]

Incredible design language going on here. Very inspirational!

ScarlettPPC's Cafe [19 Jun 2024]

Cool old-school design, and cool work keeping old Macs alive

dte text editor [26 May 2024]

I bet this is really nice if you’re not already entrenched in vim or something

Though I’ve never used Windows full time, I always think this kind of stuff is cool.

Compliance Signs [27 Apr 2024]

Really tickles the ‘tism doesn’t it?

From a commenter on this article: “More people should be tending their “digital gardens” just to have something to curate and share. Bring back the weird, the odd, the deep-dives into topics you never imagined having such detail, bring back the strange animated GIFS, the websites always “under construction”, give me your weird, give me your odd, this should be everyone’s place to be free.”

Gonna be honest, I couldn’t be bothered to sit and figure out what this actually does. But it seems deep enough for the exact right type of autist

Don’t remember how I discovered this, but it seems like a good place to find text-adventure games, when you’re looking for something new to play.

“web surfin” in the purest sense of the term. spend some time in here, get lost in it, the way you used to stumble across old phpbb’s

I have done 0 research on any of this but it would be cool if there was some kind of refurbishing kits for these things where you could put in new batteries etc

I am only just now discovering this site for the first time and it’s a true gold mine. This is a great interview with Miyamoto himself.

MOTHER x G-SHOCK [13 Mar 2024]

Looks like today’s the day for this release… Wonder what it takes to import one to burgerland

Leaving a note here to remind myself that this exists. Appears to be a remake of the Microsoft Sculpt keyboard, which was one of the all-time greats.

There’s a lot of fun stuff to see on Geek Hideout, but this game brought back some memories.

Grafo Zone Music [1 Mar 2024]

Yet another site I stumbled across randomly. Good stuff though. Put on some headphones, enjoy your Saturday afternoon 🤘

Marchintosh [1 Mar 2024]

Strongly, strongly endorsed. This very site is made on a Macintosh!

This link goes to the blog, but the site is way more than that. Lots of cool stuff to explore in here. Don’t miss the ‘Games’ section.

GifCities [21 Feb 2024]

Find cool animated gifs, like you’re doing an archaeological dig. I should use some of these on this site…

Bitmap Fonts [19 Feb 2024]

I tried to use some of these in the Year of Our Lord 2024 and it did not go very well… Retina displays seem to mangle them all up. But! Maybe there’s a CSS declaration that can fix it. Or, maybe they would be nice for non-web stuff.

Important research in the field, from the depths of the Old Internet

Burger Tokens [19 Feb 2024]

Not a shill post, I just think there’s some really cool stuff in here

Stay safe out there frens. And remember, internet-of-shit devices NOT ALLOW

This is so funny. I thought it was fake at first but apparently not?
